Vanderbilt reports uptick in children suffering from condition linked to COVID-19

Vanderbilt says it has treated 30 children with multi-system inflammatory syndrome. Ten of those cases have occurred in the last month.

Doctors at Vanderbilt’s Children's Hospital said on Monday that they are seeing an increase in a potentially serious illness among mid-state children that is thought to be linked to COVID-19.

Vanderbilt says it has treated 30 children with multi-system inflammatory syndrome. Ten of those cases have occurred in the last month.

The condition typically appears about four weeks after a child has recovered from a COVID-19 infection.

Various organs can be involved, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin and eyes.

Doctors suggest parents be on the lookout for fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, neck pain, rash, swelling of the hands and feet, and fatigue.
